COMING SOON: BLOCKPRINTS ON GALLERY CANVAS AND TILES!!!!

--------------------------------
The "canvas" for my BLOCK PRINTS is exceptionally small. I paint on wooden blocks that are a mere one-inch by one-inch in size, creating a tiny painting on each of the four sides. There are landscapes and seascapes, animals, abstracts...portraits of unknown people.

It is not until the blocks are scanned and printed--enlarged--that certain artifacts can be seen: the texture of the wood beneath the paint, areas of unpainted wood, slight views of other sides of the blocks.

It is whimsical artwork...uplifting, playful images are common. Repetitive lines and series of dots serve as miniature paths and stepping stones, guiding the viewer's eye through the painting. Squares are another common motif; as they both mimic the block itself and are representative of closure, resolution, within the piece. Asian elements are included, flowing from my lifelong interest in the Far East, travels in Japan and martial arts training.

While selling the BLOCK PRINTS, I provide a basket of magnifying glasses for studying the tiny blocks. People sort them by color or subject matter. Pick favorites. Stack them!

The next phase of my work with this medium will be to construct
BLOCK MOBILES, each with six or eight blocks dangling, turning slowly, suspended there in midair. The viewer will enjoy a momentary glimpse or a lingering look at each painting; the landscapes and seascapes, animals, abstracts...portraits of unknown people.
